Did you know a common cold can do more than just weaken and affect your body? Well, it’s true. In fact, it can also weaken and affect your teeth, throat, and mouth in many ways. It can cause:

Sore throat: A sore throat is a common symptom of a cold. This makes it uncomfortable to swallow, eat, and even speak.

Dry mouth: Because your nose is so stuffy, you usually resort to breathing through your mouth. This can make your mouth completely dry. It can worsen if you take antihistamines or decongestants. So, please remember to drink plenty of fluids to keep your mouth nice and wet.

Toothaches: A sinus infection can often result in a toothache. That’s because the largest sinus cavity lays just above the upper jaw. When it fills with liquid, it can place large amounts of pressure on your tooth roots, thus causing cavities.

Bad breath: If you have a runny nose, watch out for bad breath. It’s common for the mucus to fall to the back of the mouth and create a moist environment. Then, bacteria gather, live, and grow there, causing bad breath.

This is why it’s important to take good care of your smile, throat, and mouth while you are sick. In order to do so, our Ghina Morad, DMD team encourages you to get some good rest, drink plenty of liquids, keep up on oral hygiene, and avoid taking sugary medications.
